Azamara Quest

Everything you'd expect and more

Like her sister ship, the Azamara Journey is a mid-sized beauty with a deck plan well-suited to the needs of modern voyagers. In addition to going to the most celebrated destinations on Earth, youll also go to less-traveled ports, enjoy scenic rivers and waterways that are off-limits to big cruise lines, and sail to the doorstep of great cities like Seville, Hong Kong, and Bordeaux.

You'll never feel crowded in the comfortable social spaces of her bars, restaurants, and lounges. Youll love the genial club-like atmosphere and the way the attentive staff and crew get to know you. And youll feel the same friendliness with your fellow voyagers.

Staterooms feature modern amenities, furnishings, and European linens. And one of the greatest features of this ship is the large number of staterooms with verandas. There's nothing better than opening your door to the fresh sea air and views.

Azamara's friendly ships are an altogether wonderful place to call your home away from home!

Exclusive Shore Event: Mumbai | Diverse Mumbai and Festive Lunch

Ancient yet modern, fabulously rich yet achingly poor, Mumbai is India in microcosm. Mumbai was once a sultry tropical archipelago of seven islands and the Raj's brightest jewel. It was the dowry of the Portuguese Princess Infanta Catherine de Braganza who married Charles II of England in 1661. Today it's a teeming metropolis, the commercial hub of an old civilization seeking to find its place in the New World order. It is the most populous city in India with a population of approximately 20.5 million and the sixth most populous city in the world. It is also the richest city in India.

Our morning begins with a transit of the city showcasing the many highlights that make Mumbai unique. Our drive takes us past the Gateway of India, Mumbai's most famous monument and symbol of colonialism. It was built in 1911 to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary. It was originally conceived as an entry point for passengers arriving on P&O steamers from England. Today it is remembered more often as the place from which the British staged their final departure.

Next we will make our way to Dobh Ghat where will stop for pictures that we will never be able to duplicate anywhere else. Dhobi Ghat is the vast outdoor public laundry area where clothes are washed by hand, dried on corrugated roofs,  ironed  by old fashioned coal heated flat irons, and delivered back to their owners in push carts without getting lost. The secret that keeps the operation running smoothly is the coded symbol that is placed on each item. Invisible to the untrained eye, this mark ensures that nothing will be lost.

Our next stop will be Mani Bhavan, Gandhi's Bombay base between 1917 and 1934. It is now a permanent museum and memorial to the Mahatma, and contains a research library of more than 20,000 volumes including a letter to Hitler asking him not to go to war. A series of tiny dioramas tell his life story in an interesting fashion.

Arrive at the Church Gate Station and spend some time watching the dabba-wallahs, the members of the Mumbai Tiffin Box Suppliers Association. Every day 4,000 of them deliver fresh, home-cooked food from 100,000 suburban kitchens to offices in the downtown area. Each lunch is prepared by a loving wife or mother, and packed into a set of stackable aluminum boxes. The meals are carried to their hungry recipients dangling from shoulder-poles and bicycle handlebars, and stacked on decorated handcarts. Tins are rarely, if ever, lost, and always find their way home again to be washed up for the next day's lunch.

Mumbai is named after Mumbadevi, the goddess of the Koli fishermen the original inhabitants of Mumbai. Visit a fishing village and meet these tribal people, who were the first to inhabit the seven islands that now make up this huge city. For centuries the Koli people have lived in symbiosis with the ocean harvesting the deep sea crops and selling fish on the markets as they continue to do today. Silently, the Kolis are now themselves falling prey to urbanization and modern development that surrounds them as they struggle to keep their traditions alive.

An Indian lunch awaits you at Ziya, the Indian restaurant at the Oberoi Hotel.  Ziya meaning "splendor light" celebrates the return of prodigal Chef Vineet Bhatia. A chef of sublime talents, he created history by being the first Indian Chef to get the coveted Michelin Star. His food does not conform to the norms of traditional Indian cookery; instead he has created unusual combinations, contrasts in textures, flavors and temperatures. His light and imaginative dishes display a clever balance between originality and an immense respect for the history of Indian cooking.

On our way back to the pier, drive past Victoria Terminus - a most remarkable railway station. Inspired by St. Pancras Station in London, this station was built during Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee year. It is an extraordinary conglomeration of domes, spires, Corinthian columns and minarets in a style described by journalist James Cameron as "Victorian-Gothic-Saracenic-Italianate-Oriental-St. Pancras-Baroque".

Approximate Length: Five hours, 15 minutes.

Suggested Attire: Casual and comfortable for hot and humid temperatures.  Proper attire is required to visit the sacred sites. Shorts and short skirts are not allowed. Women must have their shoulders covered. Shoes must be removed prior to entering the temples. We suggest bringing along a pair of thick socks because the pavement may be hot. Sunscreen, sunglasses and hats are recommended. Moderate walking.

PLEASE NOTE: All Virtuoso events ashore are capacity controlled and require a minimum number of participants to operate. Events are subject to change without notice.
